Apples: Eating healthy while getting rid of bad breath?

description:

I don't know if it's an old wife's tale, or of there's some truth behind it, but somewhere down the line I was told that apples help you lessen halitosis. To my knowledge I don't have a problem with this (and if I do, I would hope people would tell me!), but like everyone else out there, I perpetually worry if I have bad breath. Even if it doesn't work, apples are one of the best fruits we can eat...and, of course, it brings to mind the old adage, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away."

You're absolutely right- apples do help with halitosis as do other crunchy things like celery and carrots- they eliminate plaque that can cause bad breath. Other things that help: yogurt (not the sweetened ones) and Vitamin C from your diet (they make an inhospitable environment for bacteria growth), herbs like parsley, and a fallback - chewing sugarless gum when you're out and can't brush. Here's a site that highlights this: http://www.fitsugar.com
