Thanks for this post! One of the reasons I run the Jordan River Parkway in Utah is to avoid automobile pollution. There is another source of pollution that I can't avoid. The Salt Lake valley is in a bowl, bounded by the Wasatch mountains in the east and the Oquirrh Mountains in the west. This bowl causes temperature inversions that are rated Red, Orange, or Green. I do run during Red and Orange days, and I haven't noticed problems with my breathing. I am, though, concerned about running those days. I don't have a treadmill at home, and if I don't run during Red or Orange days, I could miss a whole week of running. I should probably consider getting a treadmill or a gym membership.
