fitlanthropist: I love the concept of Well, Then. Really looking forward to engaging in good, useful dialogue!

My name is John and I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Georgia. I recently started a blog where I'm trying to raise money for charity while I lose weight and get healthy (http://fitlanthropist.com). I took up running last year and dropped 30 pounds, but quit when my son was born...the sedentary lifestyle that has since ensued with PhD work has obviously been detrimental. I'm looking to renew my commitment to a healthy lifestyle, and am looking forward to finding some motivation through well, then...

I'm man enough for Jillian Michaels

As much as I love running, I'm not the biggest fan of running in the cold. So, in order to keep up a decent exercise regimen I am heeding my sisters-in-law and my wife's advice by trying out new workout videos. Thei »more

Holiday Eating: Don't Let Yourself Go

It's a vicious cycle really...the holidays come, we pig out on wonderful goodies, and then resolve to start the new year 'strong' with lots of exercise and healthy eating. At least I do. And at almost 29 years »more

Apples: Eating healthy while getting rid of bad breath?

I don't know if it's an old wife's tale, or of there's some truth behind it, but somewhere down the line I was told that apples help you lessen halitosis. To my knowledge I don't have a problem with t »more

Losing weight for charity

I am a very big (no pun intended) proponent of charitable giving. I have been raised to always look for ways in which I can benefit my community, and in my personal life I have always wanted to be a "philanthropist." »more
