How to Maintain a Paleo Diet During the Holidays!
Our family has been on the Primal Solution Diet for the last month! We've enjoyed a loss of body fat, better energy and just a general overall feeling of wellness. Both my husband and I have also seen an huge improvement in our athletic performances- either in lifting or in cycling!
Throughout this month-long "test" we omitted alcohol, sugar, grains and dairy, and, although that may seem extreme, we really did well with it.
The following are some tips we learned from eating like a caveman for a month:
1. Make a big open faced omelet every 3 days. This will serve well for either breakfast or lunch. Serve with avocado and fresh salsa.
2. Cook a large batch of chicken breasts with tasty seasonings (we like Penzey's Spices). Having cooked protein is the hardest to have find when so we always keep extras in the fridge.
3. Always have apples and nuts on hand for those times with cooking is impossible.
4. Prepare at least 2 main dishes on Sundays to eat throughout the week.
5. Tell your friends and families what you are doing and be prepared to socialize at your house rather than theirs!
6. Learn how to make caveman cookies and larabars at home!
7. Make fancy drinks with soda waters and fresh citrus.
8. Continue to tell your friends and families to bring you apples and NOT sugar based deserts.
Finally, have fun with this diet. I've thoroughly enjoyed downloading and cooking new recipes and finding new ways to get our kids to eat more fruits and veggies.
